HELLO, I'M GARFIELD

I build useful things with search, AI and a healthy amount of curiosity.

I'm a software architect in London. Most days I help large teams make search and AI genuinely useful. After hours, I make and run small products of my own.

I like the bit between “we have an idea” and “people are actually using it.”

That usually means getting into the messy middle: understanding the real problem, sketching the architecture, testing whether it works, and helping a team get it over the line.

Search has been the thread through most of my career. These days that naturally includes semantic retrieval, RAG, LLMs, and the very important question: is this actually better?

No vanity metrics. Just useful context.

The side projects keep me honest.

When you own the whole thing, there's nowhere to hide. You have to decide what matters, ship it, watch what happens, and fix what doesn't.

A USEFUL UK DIRECTORY

Find a Launderette

A side project that grew into a proper data product.

I built and still run this programmatic directory. It now brings in around 12.3K Google clicks and 1.7K Bing clicks each month. I use the Claude API to enrich business data and Claude Code as part of the development harness.

03

A CREATIVE APP FOR CHILDREN

Creatiiv Kids

An AI product I took from an idea to both app stores.

I built the iOS and Android app, with Gemini handling server-side generation through Supabase. It includes usage controls, subscriptions, analytics, and production monitoring. Claude Code and Google Antigravity were part of how I built it.

I help big teams make search smarter—and make sure “smarter” can be measured.

01

Over the last few years I've led the architecture on 20+ enterprise search projects across EMEA and North America. Four focused on AI or semantic search.

02

On one head-to-head benchmark, a semantic-boosting framework I designed delivered 10% better relevance than the client's existing platform.

03

I built a retrieval evaluation framework because “this feels better” isn't a release criterion. It gave teams a repeatable way to compare approaches.

04

I'm equally comfortable in a technical workshop or an executive briefing—helping people make sense of the choices without hiding behind jargon.

A career built around finding better answers.
